‘The majority of the population living in Armenia were Azerbaijanis’: Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis adopts statement
The Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan has adopted a statement regarding the return of ‘Western Azerbaijanis’ to their ‘historic homeland.’ This was reported by Azerbaijani media sources.
The statement mentions that ensuring the return of ‘Western Azerbaijanis’ to their ‘historic lands’ is one of the means to strengthen trust between the countries.
It is also noted that ‘Azerbaijanis have lived in the territory of the present-day Republic of Armenia for centuries,’ and that the ‘majority of the population living there were Azerbaijanis.’
‘Community representatives believe that recognizing the right of Western Azerbaijanis to return to their ancestral homeland in today’s Armenia is one of the most important tools for building trust between Azerbaijan and Armenia. This would be an important step toward achieving real peace between the two states and creating an environment of coexistence in the region,’ the statement reads.
