Azerbaijani Airlines Paid Armenia €90,000 in 2023 for Flights to Nakhchivan

Azerbaijani airlines have paid approximately €90,000 to Armenia in 2023 for flights to and from Nakhchivan. This information was provided by the Civil Aviation Committee of Armenia in response to a written inquiry from Sputnik Armenia.

“We inform you that the revenue recorded for the provision of air navigation services to Azerbaijani airlines in Armenia's airspace for 2023 amounts to €90,018.71,” the response stated.

It should be noted that the state-owned airline Azerbaijan Airlines started using Armenia's airspace for passenger flights from Baku to Nakhchivan on October 6, 2021. The company's subsidiary, Buta Airways, also operated on this route. In October 2023, they merged.

Despite the blockade of Nagorno-Karabakh and the forced relocation of residents, Armenia has not closed its airspace to Azerbaijani aircraft.

In 2022, Azerbaijan's national airline AZAL paid approximately €112,000 to Armenia for flights on the same route.
