Elections Turned into a Chair Battle: "Pyunik" Football Club

"Pyunik" football club has issued a statement regarding the elections for the president of the Football Federation of Armenia (FFA), stating:

“We want to thank you for sharing your feelings about the future of Armenian football with us in the last weeks of the past year. Together, we raised questions, discussed the shortcomings of the current leadership of the federation with facts, made statements, and stayed engaged. We are pleased to have gained hope in the person of Aras Ozbilis, who is supported not only by the majority of the football community but also by well-known Armenian athletes around the world such as Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Karen Khachanov, and Levon Aronian—people who know firsthand how important a professional approach and a strong and responsible federation are for the country.

Unfortunately, everything was predetermined. The elections have turned into a chair battle. The voting results are not a surprise to us. The results of the work and the public opinion have once again been shamelessly ignored. However, recent weeks have given us confidence that together we can influence the future and bring Armenian football back on the path of development and progress.

In any case, we will continue the fight in our country’s most beloved sport to establish cleanliness and ensure prosperity. We will do everything in our power both on and off the field to return Armenian football to the deserving level. Football unites people all over the world, and we are part of this great family.”

It should be noted that the elections for the FFA president took place today, December 23. The candidates were the incumbent president Armen Melikbekyan and former player of the Armenian national football team Aras Ozbilis. During a regular session, the Football Federation of Armenia re-elected the incumbent president Armen Melikbekyan to office.
