Former Georgian Prime Minister Demands Mikheil Saakashvili Be Transferred to Prison

The former Prime Minister of Georgia, now opposition leader, Giorgi Gakharia, through his party “For Georgia,” is demanding the transfer of the country’s third president, Mikheil Saakashvili, back to a penal institution. This was reported by “Alic Media.”

During a press briefing held in the Georgian parliament, party member Mikheil Daushvili stated that during the court proceedings on December 20, Saakashvili conducted a party meeting via live broadcast from the ‘Vivamed’ clinic, issued orders, and presented a plan for the reunification of his opposition party, the “United National Movement.” The judge did not interrupt him.

Daushvili assessed the judge’s conduct as a violation of the code. The opposition party is calling on the authorities to allow the court to implement justice: “Stop the systematic violation of the Criminal Procedure Code and transfer Mikheil Saakashvili to a penal institution.”

Responding to the call for Saakashvili’s transfer from the clinic, Tbilisi’s mayor and secretary general of the ruling “Georgian Dream” party, Kaha Kaladze, said, “Mikheil Saakashvili is on a diet; he is in excellent condition and looks good. Probably, the relevant agency will make a decision (about transferring him to prison).”

It is noted that Minister of Justice Rati Bregadze spoke about the possible return of Saakashvili to a penal institution on November 10, stating that a corresponding opinion from doctors is necessary for this.
