VIDEO: Police Discover Fisherman Selling Sturgeon in Goris

Julya

The community inspectors of the Goris Police Department, in cooperation with the employees of the Food Safety Inspection Body's Syunik regional center, noticed during a patrol at the intersection of Independence and Gusan Ashot streets in Goris that fish was being sold from a vehicle marked 'VAZ-21093'. A total of 31 sturgeon, weighing approximately 10 kilograms, were discovered. This was reported by the police.

The driver, a resident of the village of Noratus in the Gegharkunik region, stated that he obtained the fish in Gavar for resale purposes. It was reported that the fish was confiscated. Three of them were sent for examination, while the rest were packaged, sealed, and placed in the refrigerator.

The police once again urge everyone to refrain from fishing and selling sturgeon. Fishing for sturgeon is prohibited during this spawning season, and fines are imposed for such violations under the Administrative Offenses Code. However, the goal is not to punish but to ensure the species can reproduce naturally, so that there will be fish to catch in Lake Sevan in the future.
