For the First Time, an Armenian Convict Has Been Transferred from Iran to Armenia to Serve the Remainder of His Sentence

For the first time, an Armenian convict has been transferred from Iran to Armenia to serve the remainder of his sentence. This cooperation between Armenia and Iran has yielded significant results.

According to a decision by the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Armenia, a transfer of a citizen of the Republic of Armenia has been executed from the Islamic Republic of Iran to serve the remainder of his sentence in the Republic of Armenia, as reported by the Ministry of Justice’s press service.

It should be noted that the Republic of Armenia and the Islamic Republic of Iran cooperate in the field of legal assistance under the agreement on the transfer of prisoners. This agreement allows for the transfer of individuals convicted of crimes and sentenced to imprisonment within the territory of one state to their country of citizenship to serve the remainder of their sentence.

The central authority on prisoner transfers is the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia. Additionally, it is worth mentioning that several dozen convicts have been transferred from the Republic of Armenia to the Islamic Republic of Iran. However, this is the first transfer of a citizen of Armenia from Iran, marking a significant milestone, even though the agreement only operated unilaterally between the two countries due to objective reasons.
