Divorces Increase in Yerevan: What is the Situation in the Regions

The newspaper "Zhoghovurd" reports that according to fresh data released by the Statistical Committee of Armenia, Aragatsotn Province has recorded the highest rate of marriages, at nearly 6.6% per 1,000 inhabitants. The Vayots Dzor Province follows closely with 6.5%, and Kotayk Province is in third place with 6.2%.

"Zhoghovurd" also learned from the same source that the highest rate of divorces was observed in Yerevan, with 2.1% per 1,000 people. Following Yerevan, the provinces of Lori and Syunik had notable divorce rates.

Additionally, it is noteworthy that in 2022, the average age of women at first marriage was 27.9, while for men it was 31.4 years. This marks a significant increase compared to 2002 when the average age for women was 23.2 years, and for men, it was 28.8 years in 2012.

The average age for both women's first marriage and overall marriage is generally higher than the average age of mothers at the birth of their first child, as well as at the overall birth rate. This phenomenon can be attributed to the fact that the data are calculated based on registered marriages, and typically, registrations are carried out with some delay after the birth of a child. There are also cases of second and subsequent marriages, which are recorded at a higher age.

Another noteworthy fact is that since 2020, there has been a sharp decline in the fertility rate among the urban population, while it has increased in rural areas. These data are also collected based on legally established documentation.
