Heads of State Media Outlets Dismissed in Poland
The leadership of Poland's state media, including public television, radio, and the news agency, has been dismissed. This was announced on Wednesday, December 20, by the Polish government.
According to Polsat News, just an hour after the announcement, TVP Info and TVP3 ceased broadcasting, and the TVPinfo website is no longer operational.
The new government claims that during the eight-year rule of the Law and Justice party, state media have become tools of propaganda. Prime Minister Donald Tusk's coalition has promised to establish new media outlets that will adopt a more balanced approach.
The day before, the Polish Sejm passed a resolution on the "Restoration of the Legal Framework, Impartiality, and Integrity of State Media and the Polish Press Agency." The document calls on all governmental bodies to take measures aimed at restoring constitutional order and ensuring citizens' access to reliable information regarding the operations of state media.
Politicians from the Law and Justice party did not support the resolution.
