Young Woman Transferred to Hospital After Dog Bite Dies; Mother of Four
A young woman who was transferred to the National Center for Infectious Diseases months ago due to a dog bite passed away last night. She was from the community of Lernagog in the Armavir province.
The information was confirmed in an interview with community leader Sarkis Margaryan. “The dog bit her back in September, but I can't say whether that was the cause of her death. She had consulted the hospital for various issues. There was no problem initially; the wound had healed and closed up, but later, she had come to see the doctor complaining of back pain. During the examination, no blood-related issues were found, and she experienced other health problems afterwards. It became clear during the process that an illness had developed as a result of the dog bite, and the symptoms had only shown up several months later. The forensic examination is to take place in two days; then we will know more,” he said.
According to him, the community has a problem with stray dogs, but this is the first recorded case of its kind. “Right now, I am in Yerevan, where there are also many stray dogs. In the community, we tried to hold a tender to address this, planning to allocate 2 million drams annually, but no one participated. Whoever would join would also sterilize the community's dogs. We have always had issues related to dogs,” he noted.
Maria Tsatryan, spokesperson for the Minister of Health, also informed us that the 44-year-old woman had rabies.
