VIDEO: Traffic Paralyzed on Yerevan-Sevan Highway as Fishermen Block Road

A tense situation has developed in the Gegharkunik region, where residents of several villages have blocked both sides of the Yerevan-Ijevan highway near the Gagarin settlement in protest. The traffic has come to a standstill due to the actions of the villagers.

They are protesting against the government’s ban on their fishing activities. Law enforcement officers have arrived at the scene and are negotiating with the protesters.

The demonstrators refuse to open the road and demand a meeting with Gegharkunik Governor Karen Sargsyan and Minister of Environment Hakob Simidian.

Lawyer and leader of the "Just Armenia" party, Norair Norikyan, has released a video from the scene, noting that such methods are unlikely to resolve the issues at hand.
