VIDEO: Customs Committee Prevents $1 Million Smuggling Case
The officers from the Smuggling Prevention Department of the State Revenue Committee of Armenia, specifically from the Zvartnots Division and the Western Customs Division, consistently monitor violations related to the transportation of cash across Armenia's air borders.
On December 14, a significant case of smuggling large sums of money across the Armenian state border was jointly uncovered by these customs authorities. After crossing the "green corridor" of customs control at Zvartnots International Airport, they inspected the luggage belonging to V.A., a citizen of Armenia and Russia, arriving on a Milan-Yerevan flight.
The customs inspection revealed, apart from personal belongings, an undeclared sum of one million US dollars, which included 1,000 banknotes of 50 US dollars and 9,500 banknotes of 100 US dollars.
A record of this smuggling incident has been drawn up under Article 291 of the Armenian Criminal Code, and the materials have been provided to the Investigative Committee of Armenia.
Note: A person charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the law defined by the Criminal Procedure Code of Armenia, following a legally binding court judgment.
