Varazdat Lalayan Takes First at Qatar Grand Prix, Martirosyan Second
The last Grand Prix of the year in weightlifting concluded in Qatar with the performances of the super heavyweight competitors. In the super heavyweight category of the competition held in Doha, Armenia's Simon Martirosyan successfully made one attempt in the snatch, lifting 190 kg. Martirosyan placed third in this event. In the clean and jerk, he recorded lifts of 231 kg and 240 kg. With a total score of 430 kg, he secured the second place.
Armenian team member Varazdat Lalayan had one successful attempt in the snatch, lifting 200 kg overhead, thus becoming a small gold medalist. In the clean and jerk, Lalayan lifted 230 kg, 235 kg, and then 241 kg across three attempts. With a total result of 441 kg, he became the gold medalist.
Previously, other medalists from the Armenian team included Hripsime Khurshudyan, Tatev Hakobyan, Garik Karapetyan, Davit Hovhannisyan, Andranik Karapetyan, and Alexander Grigoryan.
