Is Nikol Pashinyan Preparing for Snap Elections? A New Thesis Circulates
The newspaper 'Joghout' reports that recently a new thesis has been actively circulating in the political arena, suggesting that Nikol Pashinyan is considering snap elections as a way to alleviate the tension created after the final handover of Artsakh. Thus, Pashinyan aims to address multiple issues at once: despite widespread discontent, he intends to legitimize and extend his power once more, while also bringing satellite political forces of the Republican Party into the parliament, such as the 'Republic' and the LHK, which will not create unnecessary obstacles for him.
The intention of Nikol Pashinyan to go for snap elections is further confirmed by his recent frequent meetings with the party's board and regional activists to gauge sentiments and to discuss the possibility of snap elections. Moreover, the ruling party has decided to strengthen its positions before heading to snap elections by eliminating opposition mayors who may pose future obstacles.
'Joghout' inquired with Romagos Petrosyan, a member of the QP board, whether discussions are taking place regarding snap elections: 'QP is not preparing for snap elections at this moment; we are simply beginning the process of institutional party building. The board president, along with board members, frequently visits the regions and engages in various formats of interactions with territorial councils, structures, and party members. Through this, we address ideological issues, maintain direct communication between the board and party members, and strengthen the ideological component in the ongoing party building process. The issue of snap elections is not under discussion.'
