Visa Liberalization with the EU Will Be Among Topics Discussed with Armenian Leadership: Estonian Foreign Minister

Estonia is ready to support Armenia if preparations for EU membership begin. This was stated by Estonia's Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna during a press conference with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan.

According to Tsahkna, the main message regarding EU expansion in the region is linked to Georgia. He expressed hope that the European Union will be able to make this decision. “It is not easy, but Estonia is prepared to assist with these expansion processes,” he noted.

Regarding Armenia, one of the topics of discussion with Armenia's leadership will be the liberalization of the visa regime with the EU. Tsahkna expressed hope that next year the parties will be able to move to the next phase on this issue. “One of the topics is also being ready to work on steps towards EU membership. We have worked on this for several decades, and we will support the retraining of your staff and aid these processes in a more practical field,” Tsahkna stated.

Estonia's Foreign Minister also promised to initiate the process of recognizing the Armenian Genocide in the country's parliament. “During my meeting with Armenia's Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, I emphasized that Estonia owes it to Armenia that we have not recognized the genocide against the Armenian people, and I will start this process in the Estonian parliament,” Tsahkna mentioned.
