Tesla Recalls 2 Million Cars in the U.S. Due to Autopilot System Issues
Tesla is recalling over 2 million cars sold in the U.S. to fix issues with the autopilot system. The updates are aimed at ensuring that drivers remain attentive while using the autopilot feature. This information was reported by the Associated Press.
The recall comes after a two-year investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which identified accidents that occurred while drivers were using the partially automated autopilot driving system. Some of these accidents have resulted in fatalities.
The agency indicated that the findings of the investigation suggest that the autopilot's method of ensuring driver attention may not be sufficient and could lead to predictable misuse of the system.
The recalls affect Model Y, S, 3, and X vehicles manufactured between October 5, 2012, and December 7, 2023. Tesla plans to update the existing systems in these cars and add additional regulations and alerts designed to encourage drivers to maintain ongoing responsibility while using autopilot.
