Illegal Water Withdrawal Detected at ‘Wash Yourself’ Car Washes

The Environmental and Mining Inspection Body reports: “Based on information received from the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia, the employees of the Environmental and Mining Inspection Body conducted inspections at the ‘Wash Yourself’ car washes operating in the town of Chambarak, Gegharkunik Province.

It has been revealed that two car wash facilities were conducting illegal water extraction from deep wells without the necessary water use permits, while wastewater was being discharged into the Getik River. By the decisions of the head of the Gegharkunik territorial division of the Environmental and Mining Inspection Body, the illegal water use and discharge operations at the car washes have been suspended, and the pipelines have been sealed. The operators have been subjected to administrative penalties.”
