Man Wrongly Imprisoned for 27 Years in the U.S. Seeks Compensation

An American who was wrongfully imprisoned for 27 years has filed a lawsuit against the city of New York and two former detectives, seeking $50 million in compensation for the psychological damage he suffered, as reported by the Associated Press.

Thomas Malick was sentenced to prison in 1995 for the brutal murder of a subway token clerk. He, along with two others, was convicted and spent time in a correctional facility. In 2022, prosecutors dropped the charges against the inmates, determining that they were based on false testimonies and unreliable evidence.

“Malick is seeking compensation for the psychological and physical damages he endured during his incarceration,” the agency quoted two of the man's attorneys as saying.

The New York City Law Department stated that it will review Malick's claim.
