Kazan Mayor Calls for Washing Bags to Reduce Plastic Use
The Mayor of Kazan, Ildar Metshin, has called for residents to wash their bags to reduce plastic consumption. He made this announcement during the Business Monday event.
He shared that his English teacher washes bags to reuse them. “A person is self-sufficient and can afford to do that. But it’s not about money; it’s about respect for nature, ecology, and the future of Kazan,” the mayor emphasized, adding that such issues can only be resolved through recycling and separate waste collection.
“We cannot postpone this any longer; otherwise, we will literally drown in garbage. The volume of waste we have is harmful to the city. And since the overwhelming majority, I hope and believe, want to live in Kazan and wish for their children and grandchildren to grow up in a safe and healthy environment, we must realize this together. Therefore, this issue is one of the most important and priority for us in the coming years,” Mr. Metshin stated.
He has tasked Rustem Gafarov, head of the Kazan Executive Committee, to address this issue. According to him, Kazan must deal with it and find solutions.
