VIDEO: Citizens Struggle to Fit into Metro Carriages - Spokesperson Clarifies

Julya

“This morning, the interval between trains has been 4.5 minutes. We have deployed 7 trains with 2 carriages and 2 trains with 3 carriages,” said Tatev Khachatryan, spokesperson for the Yerevan Metro named after Karen Demirchyan, in an interview with Auroranews, addressing a video circulating on social media showing citizens unable to fit into the train carriages.

“We are experiencing a sharp increase in passenger flow. Compared to last year, when we transported around 60,000 passengers daily, today we are transporting up to 90,000 passengers,” she noted, explaining that “this is primarily due to most people choosing this option to avoid traffic jams, along with residents from Artsakh and also tourists. Thus, we have recorded a significant increase in passenger flow.”

The spokesperson further emphasized that this is the only transportation mode operating even with intervals of 4.5 to 6 minutes, which is due to boarding and disembarking at each station.

Tatev Khachatryan added that an additional 3-carriage train has been brought into service today, which she described as a significant improvement. The video in question was released by the My Armenia parliamentary group.
