Retired Aircraft Removed from the ‘Zvartnots’ Airport Aerodrome
The ‘Zvartnots’ International Airport in Yerevan is not only home to Armenian planes and foreign aircraft arriving at the airport but also features long-retired airplanes that are no longer suitable for flights but still possess certain value.
Until recently, there were seven such aircraft. Six were previously registered in the Armenian aircraft registry, while one was from the African state of Guinea. The publication ‘Hetq’ has previously reported on the aircraft with Armenian registrations on various occasions.
One of these is the former presidential/government ‘Tu-134A-3’ (previous Armenian registration EK-65072), which served former President Robert Kocharyan in the 2000s and was retired from service in 2010. A new presidential aircraft, the ‘Airbus A319-100 ACJ,’ was acquired in 2007, while EK-65072 continued to carry out flights for state needs from 2007 to 2010.
This aircraft, manufactured in 1977, was previously operated by the Soviet ‘Aeroflot’ and Armenia’s national airline ‘Armenian Airlines.’ It was modified into a VIP aircraft in the 1990s.
