Italian eco-activists have painted Venice's Grand Canal green with organic paint in protest against the lack of progress at the COP28 climate summit in Dubai. This was reported by euronews.

Just a day prior, the conference president Sultan bin Ahmed Al-Jaber called for expedited work on the final document, acknowledging that disagreements among delegations are still more prevalent than shared positions.

Many participants at COP28 admit that the establishment of positions is proceeding slowly, but they are not planning to give up. “Everything is progressing very slowly, especially in areas such as adaptation. There is still no text. This is frustrating, to be honest. But we are not here to give up. We are here for the long haul because we want to achieve a good outcome for our survival,” said climate negotiator Toeolesulu Schuster, who resides in Samoa.

The draft of the conference's final document includes several options for the future use of fossil fuels. Haitham Al-Ghais, Secretary General of OPEC (Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries), has called for the rejection of any formulation regarding a gradual phase-out.
