US Vetoes UN Resolution for Ceasefire in Gaza

The United States has exercised its veto power in the UN Security Council, blocking a humanitarian resolution drafted by the United Arab Emirates that calls for an immediate ceasefire in the Israel-Palestine conflict zone.

The resolution was supported by 13 of the 15 members of the Security Council, including Russia and China, while the United Kingdom abstained from the vote. Deputy U.S. Ambassador to the UN, Robert Wood, stated that the resolution is disconnected from reality. Moreover, the United States was dissatisfied with the absence of a condemnation of Hamas's actions in the document as well as the affirmation of Israel's right to self-defense.

The Palestinian representative called the day a sad one in the history of the Security Council and vowed to continue knocking on the doors of the UN Security Council until it wakes up and takes responsibility to stop this criminal war against the Palestinian people.

The resolution also calls for the release of all hostages and urges all parties to the conflict to uphold their obligations under international humanitarian law.
