Scholz Accuses Putin of Halting Gas Supplies to Germany

The Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, has accused Russia and personally President Vladimir Putin of halting the supply of gas to Europe, as reported by REX. “Yes, Russia has stopped the energy supply to Europe... It is the President of Russia who has halted the gas supply through the serviced gas pipeline,” Scholz said during a meeting of the Social Democratic Party of Germany.

Due to the cessation of gas supplies from Russia, Germany has lost half of its energy resources, while Europe as a whole has lost 120 billion cubic meters of gas. “This has repercussions on energy prices,” the Chancellor concluded.

In response, Germany has increased the volume of gas purchases from Norway and started constructing liquefied natural gas terminals in the north of the country. According to REX, Scholz has stated that Germany is interested in gas supplies from Nigeria, which holds the largest reserves in Africa, and supports joint initiatives to expand the hydrogen fuel market.

The Chancellor also highlighted the achievement of gaining independence from Russian gas. Russia should not count on the fact that Germany and the West will retreat and will no longer be able to provide financial and military support to Ukraine. This was stated by Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

During his speech at the meeting of the Social Democratic Party of Germany, Scholz admitted that providing financial and military assistance to Ukraine poses a significant challenge for Germany. “But now, in the current situation, we are talking about a very clear message coming from the world, Europe, and Germany, which is that we cannot and must not retreat, and in the future, we will be able to ensure what is necessary for Ukraine and its 46 million inhabitants,” the Chancellor said.
