TikTok to Review Its Content Policy in Turkey Considering Local Moral Values

The social network TikTok will review its content policy in Turkey and take into account the specifics of local morality and ethical values. This was stated by Emir Gelen, the official representative of TikTok in the Republic, during a meeting with the relevant parliamentary committee. Turkish newspapers report this.

He was summoned to the Turkish parliament in connection with numerous complaints received from local authorities regarding the social network. According to Huseyin Yayman, a member of the ruling Justice and Development Party and chairman of the Parliamentary Digital Media Commission, the activities of bloggers have recently become a "national security issue." Legislators consider it necessary to impose financial and tax control over bloggers.

According to Yayman, TikTok has about 30 million users in Turkey, which has a population of 85 million, so the administrators of social networks must respect the "moral values of Turkish society."

The TikTok representative also noted that the company is taking measures to combat money laundering and illegal profit-making, and a specific program has been developed for this purpose. Consultations are ongoing with local authorities, NGOs, and academic institutions regarding the review of the content policy.

Earlier, Turkey's Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced that authorities are conducting checks on over 600 TikTok accounts for publishing inappropriate content. Thirteen individuals have been detained, and actions have begun against 14 others to expel them from the country.
