Unexpected Decisions Regarding Turkey: What Has Greece's Prime Minister Announced

Greece has decided to activate relations with Turkey and support its efforts to join the EU. This was announced by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at a joint press conference with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

“We will support Turkey in its EU accession process. We have just signed a declaration of friendship,” Mitsotakis stated.

He added that for Turkish citizens, visa-free travel for seven days to ten islands in the Aegean Sea will be reinstated.

“I believe we have reached the end of tense relations. The two neighboring countries must act together. We must create a wonderful future,” Mitsotakis added.

Following the meeting, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated that there are no issues between Turkey and Greece that cannot be resolved.

“We hope to solve our problems through constructive dialogue and friendly relations based on international law,” Erdoğan announced at the press conference, adding, “It would be in the interests of the entire region to achieve a fair, lasting, and sustainable solution to the Cyprus issue based on the realities of the island.”

Erdoğan also noted that he wishes to “set an example for the world” by taking joint steps between Turkey and Greece.
