O'Brien Comments on First Meeting with Aliyev in Baku

The first meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, during which the future of U.S.-Azerbaijan relations was discussed, was held in a constructive spirit. This was reported by James O’Brien, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, on his microblog on X social media.

“Establishing strong and sustainable peace in the South Caucasus region will open historic opportunities,” O’Brien wrote.

It should be noted that earlier, during hearings in the Senate dedicated to the future of Nagorno-Karabakh, James O’Brien stated that relations with Baku would not be the same as before after the aggression on September 19, as long as Azerbaijan does not make progress in peace negotiations with Armenia.
