Iran Seizes Two Oil Tankers with 4.5 Million Liters of Smuggled Oil

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) naval forces have seized two oil tankers carrying smuggled oil in the Persian Gulf. This was reported by the Tasnim agency.

According to the agency, a total of 4.5 million liters of smuggled fuel was discovered on the two vessels. One of the tankers had 13 crew members, all of whom are foreigners, although their nationalities have not been disclosed. The second vessel had 21 crew members, also foreign nationals. The smugglers have been arrested.

In August, it was revealed that the United States was considering the possibility of deploying and escorting military personnel on its commercial vessels to protect them from seizures by Iran in the Strait of Hormuz.

Prior to this, it was reported that the U.S. was sending F-16 fighter jets to the Persian Gulf region to assist in protecting the ships from being seized by Iran in the Strait of Hormuz. This measure was taken more than a week after Iran attempted to seize two oil tankers in the strait.
