‘You Came to Kill Us, You Were Staging Our Execution and Celebrating It with Barbecues’: Alen Simonyan to the Opposition

The National Assembly session today commenced with a debate between the ruling party and the opposition. Arthur Khachatryan, a member of the ‘Hayastan’ faction, announced that the ruling Civil Contract party once again prevented the opposition's initiative from being included in the agenda for discussion. ‘Another initiative has been killed,’ he said.

National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan responded that the public is waiting to understand what agenda the opposition is referring to when they momentarily returned to the Assembly, then left, and then came back again. ‘Discuss the questions among yourselves and present the answers to your voters,’ noted Simonyan. He believes that voters are satisfied with their choice of the Civil Contract party.

Arzvik Minasyan, the secretary of the ‘Hayastan’ faction, countered that there first needs to be a ruling party that fulfills its electoral promises. ‘The government not only has not fulfilled its electoral promises but is implementing the direct opposite. Have you not considered that your behavior not only contradicts simple logic but also leads our parliament in an unclear direction?’ emphasized Minasyan.

Alen Simonyan responded that he does not understand what the opposition has to do with their electoral promises. ‘Your electoral promise, if we formulate it, was that you came to kill us, you were staging our execution and celebrating it with barbecues,’ highlighted Simonyan, stressing that they will talk to their voters in 2026.
