People in Armenia Will Be Allowed to Carry Weapons Freely

Armenia needs to regulate the right of citizens to self-defense through legislation regarding the use of weapons. This was announced by Vilen Gabrielyan, a member of the ruling Civil Contract faction, during the discussion of a package of bills to amend the law on the Regulation of Weapons Circulation at a meeting of the National Assembly’s Permanent Commission on Defense and Security.

According to the deputy, the proposed package aims to eliminate potential corrupt practices in this area, reduce the amount of illegal weapons, and gradually withdraw them from unlawful circulation. “Citizens of the country will be granted the right to carry firearms if they meet a number of requirements, including mental stability, possession of the appropriate license, and so on,” elaborated the deputy.

It was noted that the adoption of the package of bills will also contribute to the development of hunting, amateur and sports shooting, and military training. The related speaker, Armen Khachatryan, Deputy Chairman of the Permanent Commission on Defense and Security of the National Assembly, emphasized the importance of adopting the legislative package and urged his colleagues to vote in favor.

Arpine Sargsyan, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, presented the Government's positive stance. She highlighted the collaborative work with the author regarding the package. As a result of the discussion, the legislative package received a positive conclusion.
