Video: "The government's aim to clear the center is noble, but the decision to raise fees is wrong," Edik Ghazaryan

Mariam Z.

The methods to relieve traffic in the center of Yerevan vary, and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan could be suggested to travel not by convoy but by bicycle, which he has experience with, public figure Edik Ghazaryan stated.

“Have you calculated what kind of traffic jams arise when traveling through the center in Pashinyan's convoy, and whether those jams are worse than those caused by red lines?” Ghazaryan raised the question.

According to him, the government is only increasing the cost of parking in the center, without offering alternatives to citizens. Ghazaryan also noted that while the aim of the authorities to clear the center is noble, the decision to raise fees is incorrect.

Let me remind you that the Yerevan City Hall plans to sharply increase parking fees for cars. Starting January 1, 2024, the cost of parking in red zones in the city center will increase from 12,000 drams to 160,000 drams per year. The draft has been put up for public discussion.

The rates for parking will be set based on a zoning principle, with proposals to establish Zones A and B in Yerevan. The plan to increase parking fees has sparked vigorous criticism among the public.
