I Have Been Told Directly: 'You Must Go, and Our Person Must Be the Mayor,' Says Tamazyan
There is no legal basis for initiating an impeachment process against me. This was stated by Arkadi Tamazyan, the mayor elected from the 'Living Country' party, in an interview with NEWS.am.
Tamazyan explained that 1-2 months ago, the 'Living Country' faction initiated an impeachment process (which he calls fictitious), which, of course, has not reached completion, as they are legally prohibited from starting an impeachment process for one year thereafter. He noted, 'However, they initiated the process when they managed to lure away one of our faction members with rodent-like tactics, thus achieving a majority and trying to seize power through that means.'
According to Tamazyan, from the very beginning and until now, the ruling Civil Contract faction has been creating problems for the functioning of the city hall. Initially, they did not attend the swearing-in ceremonies and later attempted to create criminal cases through pointless checks. 'Several months of council meetings have not taken place. The members of the ruling faction have caused a state of collapse. Of course, this affects the work of the city authorities. No matter how much we want to work well, the failure to adopt council decisions creates issues for both citizens and the community. We are unable to implement programs, allocate financial resources, or carry out subvention programs,' he stated.
Tamazyan declared that the Civil Contract simply wants to have their person as the mayor, stating that he was told directly, 'You must go, and our person must be the mayor.'
'But it is not their will; it is the will of the people. Until recently, the shadow process was led by MP Aren Mkrtchyan, and now I cannot understand what is happening; they have turmoil among themselves. Now it’s Davit Ghumashyan, a former Republican Party member and head of the consolidated Shnogh community, who has multiple criminal cases against him. Now that Aren Mkrtchyan has resigned his council mandate, Ghumashyan is being nominated, and they want him to become the mayor.'
Arkadi Tamazyan has assured that he will fight until the end. 'The most important thing is that the people elected us, and the people will not allow anyone to steal their votes. I have received various offers to withdraw from the struggle, but I have rejected them.'
It is noteworthy that the ruling faction of the Alaverdi City Council has expressed no confidence in Mayor Arkadi Tamazyan.
