Azerbaijan Sentences Aydin Zakiyev to 17.5 Years in Prison for 'Espionage in Favor of Armenia'

Baku's court has sentenced Aydin Zakiyev, accused of state treachery, to 17.5 years in prison. This information has been reported by Azerbaijani media.

Zakiyev was arrested by the country's law enforcement in 2021. He is accused of cooperating with Armenian special services and transmitting information about the replenishment of the Azerbaijani armed forces to the Armenian side.

The investigation claims that Zakiyev also disseminated false information in the form of pre-prepared special texts aimed at creating ethnic conflict in the country.
