Video: Parking Fees in Central Yerevan May Increase from 12,000 Dram to 160,000 Dram Annually
The Yerevan Municipality plans to multiply the parking fees in the city center. Currently, regardless of the area, the annual parking cost is 12,000 dram, but they intend to raise the fees in the center to, for example, 160,000 dram.
A draft decision titled "Establishing Local Tax Rates in Yerevan Community for 2024" has been submitted for discussion in the Yerevan City Council, proposing to set the annual parking fee in Yerevan's central area (Zone A) at 160,000 dram starting January 1, 2024, while outside the center (Zone B) it will be set at 24,000 dram.
The press secretary of the Yerevan Mayor, Hayk Kostanyan, reports that due to the proposed changes in the local tax rates for 2024, parking fees will be established based on zoning principles. It is proposed to define Zones A and B in Yerevan.
Zone A encompasses areas surrounded by the streets of St. Gregory the Illuminator, Agathangelos, Khanchyan, Alek Manukyan, Charents, Koryun, Abovyan Park, Isaacian, Moscow, Saryan, and Leo.
For Zone A:
- 300 dram per hour (free for the first 15 minutes),
- 2,000 dram per day,
- 5,000 dram per week,
- 18,000 dram per month,
- 160,000 dram per year (inclusive until December 31, 2024).
For Zone B:
- 1,000 dram per day,
- 2,000 dram per week,
- 4,000 dram per month,
- 24,000 dram per year (inclusive until December 31, 2024).
Kostanyan stated, “The initiative primarily aims to significantly relieve the small central part of the city rather than to increase the community budget revenues. Moreover, this is one of the ongoing steps taken by the community in the context of transportation reforms, which will include other components as well. Specifically, dedicated lanes for public transport will subsequently be added in the small center. In other words, the entire rationale behind the proposed changes is to prioritize public transport.”
It is noted that exemptions will be made for yard areas, educational, cultural, and health institutions, as well as adjacent areas of administrative buildings of state management and local self-government bodies.
