By the end of the month, it will be clear whether electricity tariffs will rise or not: Garegin Baghramyan
By the end of the month, it will be clear whether electricity tariffs will rise or not; at this moment, we cannot say, stated Garegin Baghramyan, the chairman of the Public Services Regulatory Commission, during a conversation with reporters, reminding that every year the energy production balance is reviewed.
“Currently, a general study is being conducted, and we are analyzing the balance,” he said.
Baghramyan explained that today there is a liberalization of the market, resulting in cases where large consumers exit the energy market and acquire electricity at unregulated prices, which naturally leaves a certain burden of fixed costs on the energy system.
“This burden may affect household consumers who still remain under regulated tariffs,” he elaborated on the potential increase.
Garegin Baghramyan confirmed that there is a greater supply of electricity than demand, and the 5th energy block operates at limited capacity during specific months, while it does not operate in others due to lack of need.
To address this, according to him, efforts are underway to increase the capacity of stable connections with both Georgia and Iran, and this infrastructure will allow for the utilization, export, and import of electricity.
