VIDEO: Armed Man Stabs Young Children in Dublin, Riots Erupt
In Dublin yesterday evening, five people, including three children, were injured in a knife attack by an unknown assailant, reports the local police. Following the incident, riots erupted in the Irish capital.
Witnesses to the attack managed to disarm the assailant, who is preliminarily identified as an Algerian immigrant. He acted alone, and the motives behind his actions remain unclear. The injured were taken to various medical facilities. A five-year-old girl, a 30-year-old woman, and the 50-year-old aggressor suffered serious injuries. A five-year-old boy and a six-year-old girl sustained minor injuries, with the boy already discharged from the hospital.
According to media reports, protesters gathered at the scene. On one of Dublin's most famous streets, O'Connell Street, demonstrators looted several shops. Protesters attacked several police officers, set police vehicles on fire, and damaged other cars. At least one police officer has been reported injured. There was also an incident of a city bus being set ablaze.
While the central area of the city remains closed to the public, additional police have arrived at the scene. Dublin Police Commissioner Drew Harris referred to the rioters as deranged far-right individuals and urged them to go home so that the police can investigate the attack peacefully.
