Requirement for Professional Certification No Longer Applies to Healthcare Workers Displaced from Artsakh

The National Assembly has approved a draft amendment to the "Law on Medical Assistance and Service Provision in the Republic of Armenia," which stipulates that the requirement for professional certification will not apply to individuals forcibly displaced from Artsakh.

Alexander Bazarchyan, the Director of the National Institute of Health of the RA Ministry of Health, presented the legislative details, noting that under the current law, all healthcare professionals must possess certification for the right to work, as part of continuous professional development. The legislative amendment establishes an exception, ensuring that this regulation does not apply to healthcare workers forcibly displaced from Artsakh.

“In fact, the requirement for certification will apply to them as well, but starting from January 1, 2025. Until then, this requirement will not be enforced. This provides the healthcare workers displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh time to gather their credits, rectify their documents, and undergo retraining,” Bazarchyan explained. It is worth noting that the residents of Artsakh do not possess these certifications, as such regulation did not exist in the region.
