Humanitarian Convoy in Gaza Targeted by 'Preplanned Attack': BBC
The international non-governmental organization Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has issued a statement condemning a "preplanned attack" on its humanitarian convoy in Gaza, resulting in one death. This was reported by the BBC.
"On November 18, 2023, a relative of one of MSF’s employees was killed, and another was injured during the attack on MSF’s convoy, which was attempting to evacuate 137 MSF staff members and their families from Palestine," the statement reads. MSF condemned the attack in the strongest possible terms.
According to MSF, the individuals had been sheltering for a week in one of the organization's buildings near Gaza’s Al-Shifa hospital. While the organization does not specify who fired upon the convoy, it provides certain details about the incident in its statement.
On Saturday, at approximately 9:00 AM local time, the five-vehicle convoy was clearly marked as MSF, including markings on the roofs of the vehicles, carrying 137 people made up of Palestinian staff and their families, including 65 children.
As reported by MSF and the organization, both sides of the conflict had been notified about the convoy’s movement. The convoy reached a checkpoint in the Wadi Gaza area, where it became stuck in line while the Israelis checked Palestinian refugees. Upon hearing gunfire, the convoy turned around and moved towards MSF’s premises, located 7 km away from the checkpoint.
“On the return journey, between 15:30 and 16:00 local time, the convoy was attacked on Al-Wahda Street near the intersection with Said al-Aas Street, adjacent to the MSF office. The attack targeted two MSF vehicles, resulting in the death of one MSF family member and another injury,” the notice stated.
