The Incident Has Shocked Us All: Andreasian at YSU

The Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, Zhanna Andreasian, has addressed the tragic incident that occurred at Yerevan State University (YSU): "The tragic incident at YSU has shocked us all. I express my solidarity with all our colleagues affected by the fire, and my deepest condolences to the family, friends, and relatives of our compatriot who lost their lives in the incident." She also delivered a message on the occasion of International Students' Day.

"Today is International Students' Day, and this tragic incident at YSU underscores the importance of a safe educational environment. I am hopeful that the investigation into the incident will provide answers to all questions. The unfortunate event does not allow us to address the students’ day with festive congratulations, but highlighting the significance of the day is important. Dear students, your health is the most valuable to us. The state is placing a primary demand for safety in education and maintaining necessary norms before all stakeholders of higher education, which is clearly emphasized in all reform programs initiated by us. The reforms currently being actively implemented at various educational levels, from content to infrastructure improvement, are aimed at ensuring the quality of your education," the message states.

It is reminded that earlier, it was reported that a fire broke out in one of the basement rooms of the first building of YSU, followed by an explosion. The Ministry of Health announced that there is one deceased and several injured as a result of the explosion.
