You Will Be Able to Travel to EU Countries with Ordinary Passports, Yeghoyan on Possible Visa Liberalization

The Chairman of the NA Standing Committee on European Integration Arman Yeghoyan, commenting on the issue of visa liberalization for Armenian citizens, stated that the European Commission refers the matter to the Council, but the decision is made by the leaders of the 27 member states. If even one of the 27 leaders is opposed, that decision, of course, will not be made.

“Yesterday, Borel announced that this issue will enter the agenda for discussion. I cannot say how that discussion will go, but I can make a prediction because we are talking about the near future, and my prediction is quite optimistic. I know the position of the overwhelming majority of the 27 member states and I am also aware of the results of discussions with 1 or 2 wavering states,” he noted.

Yeghoyan emphasized that if the European Council makes such a decision, it will be a decision to start a dialogue on visa liberalization with Armenia. The liberalization option on the table, according to Yeghoyan, is the same option that Georgia received when signing the Association Agreement. “If this happens, it will mean that you will take your ordinary passport, and with that passport, you will be able to travel to EU countries,” said the Chairman of the Committee.
