Online Monitoring of Domestic Abusers to Be Possible Through Electronic Means
Electronic monitoring will be implemented to combat domestic violence. During a government session, the measures for the application and financing of electronic monitoring, as well as the regulation of managing the database of the electronic monitoring system and the use of the data, were discussed.
The Prime Minister stated that, according to legislation, certain restrictions are applied to individuals who have committed domestic violence, one of which is to maintain a specific distance from the person who has been subjected to violence or is at potential risk of violence. He noted that ensuring this is difficult without technical means: “This decision is significant in that with the use of electronic ankle bracelets, we can verify the maintenance of distance electronically.”
He emphasized that this is a very important regulation, and during this period, electronic devices have been used for various purposes by the probation service, in cases of house arrest, etc. “In many cases, due to the absence of technical means, it creates an impression that our law enforcement system, particularly the police, does not pay proper attention to cases of domestic violence. However, I believe that with the technical capabilities of these devices, we will have a faster response,” said the Prime Minister.
Minister of Internal Affairs Vahe Ghazaryan mentioned that it is planned for the electronic devices to be ready for use by June 1, 2025. The decision on the application and financing of electronic monitoring measures, as well as the regulation of managing the database of the electronic monitoring system and the use of the data, was adopted unanimously.
