Italian Students Hang Palestinian Flag on Leaning Tower of Pisa
A group of Italian students staged a protest in the city of Pisa, demanding an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, and hung the Palestinian flag from the world-famous tower in a show of solidarity with the Palestinian people.
"The Leaning Tower of Pisa is occupied to demand a ceasefire. This morning, hundreds marched through the streets of Pisa, calling for an immediate ceasefire and putting an end to the bombardments in Gaza that have been ongoing for more than a month," the statement read.
According to reports, the protesters' procession arrived at the Pisa tower, where "the Palestinian flag was raised as a sign of solidarity with the Palestinian people." Ansa news agency reported that about 15 students "smuggled into the interior of the Leaning Tower of Pisa, bypassing security, and hung a huge Palestinian flag from the world’s most famous bell tower." The organizers of the action also lit several smoke bombs, but no damage was reported to the historical monument.
Earlier, mass protests in solidarity with Palestine were held in various Italian cities, including Rome and Milan, with active participation from youth and students.
