US Supports Peace in Taiwan But Will Continue Arms Supply to the Region
The United States is advocating for peace in Taiwan, but it will not cease its arms supply to the region, stated White House spokesperson John Kirby.
“President Biden has communicated to President Xi that we do not want conflict; we want peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait... However, under the Taiwan Relations Act, we will continue to supply defensive capabilities to Taiwan,” Kirby’s remarks were quoted by RIA Novosti.
At the same time, Kirby emphasized that the United States remains committed to the One China policy and does not support Taiwan's independence.
Earlier, Chinese President Xi Jinping had told U.S. President Joe Biden during a meeting in San Francisco that Washington should stop supplying arms to Taiwan.
