"The Problems of Armenia Are Not Foreign to Us": Bashar al-Assad
On November 15, a delegation led by Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Hakob Arshakyan met with Bashar al-Assad, the President of the Syrian Arab Republic. This was reported by the National Assembly of Armenia.
Thanking for the invitation and warm reception, the Deputy Speaker highlighted that Armenia values and highly appreciates the warm friendly relations with Syria and emphasized the special significance of the Syrian Armenian community as a stable bridge of friendship between the two countries and peoples.
Regarding the Syrian crisis, the Deputy Speaker stated that since the first day of the crisis, Armenia has supported the dialogue for the preservation of Syria's sovereignty, peace, and security in resolving the issue.
During the meeting, Hakob Arshakyan discussed in detail the situation in the South Caucasus region and presented Armenia's proposed idea of a "Peace Crossroad," emphasizing the importance of a roadmap for peace in the region.
The Deputy Speaker expressed confidence that Armenian-Syrian cooperation has great potential for development and expansion, and Armenia is ready to support the development of mutually beneficial cooperation between Armenia and Syria for the benefit of our friendly peoples.
President Bashar al-Assad highly appreciated the friendly relations between Armenia and Syria and emphasized the role of the Armenian community in the development of Syria's cultural, economic, and other sectors.
“Syria considers Armenians to be a part of its state, society, and value system. Armenia's problems are not foreign to us, and we stand by Armenia in overcoming problems and challenges,” said Bashar al-Assad.
He highlighted the importance of inter-parliamentary cooperation, which has always remained at a high level and plays a key role in developing cooperation between our states.
In a warm and friendly atmosphere, at the end of the meeting, both parties wished peace and prosperity to the Armenian and Syrian fraternal peoples.
The meeting was also attended by deputies Rustam Bakojan, Shirak Torosyan, and Aren Mkrtchyan.
