If Armenia and Azerbaijan have alternatives, there will be no need for Russian peacekeepers, O'Brien says
The United States must ensure the withdrawal of Russian peacekeepers from the region. This statement was made by James O'Brien, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, during a hearing in the U.S. House of Representatives dedicated to Nagorno-Karabakh.
According to him, by strengthening its presence, the U.S. should work towards the removal of Russian peacekeepers after the five-year term ends. “Currently, there are Russian troops there. If Armenia and Azerbaijan have alternatives, there will be no need for Russian peacekeepers,” he said.
