Video: This is More Than Ever Before - Karen Giloyan on Sambo World Championship Results

Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia, Karen Giloyan, addressed the results of the Armenian teams at the Sambo World Championship held in Yerevan over the past three days.

“From an organizational standpoint, it was close to ideal, nearly flawless. The existing shortcomings did not affect the overall qualitative results at all. A vivid indication of this was the words of gratitude from the participants of the countries. Many said it was the best championship they had ever seen,” said Giloyan.

He noted that it would have been nice if the Armenian anthem had been played from that podium. “In terms of results, we have reached a point where we consider 10 medals to be good, yet the Armenian sambo team has never brought home this many medals. We have 5 silver, 5 bronze, and we say it was good, not excellent, why? Because there was no gold. One gold is still much better than many medals. It would have been worthy for the Armenian anthem to be played here. But this is sports, and we cannot blame anyone and say they stole from us. That has not happened,” he added.
