What Could Nullify the Results of Israel's Operations: Politico

The Israeli ground operation in Gaza, which is facing growing criticism globally, will not achieve its goals without an international program for stabilizing the situation in the region. This opinion was expressed by Tobias Ellwood, former parliamentary under-secretary of state for defense in the UK, in an authored article published in Politico. The information was relayed by TASS.

According to him, Tel Aviv's response to the attacks from the radical Palestinian Hamas movement currently appears to be a clear act of revenge, demonstrating power without considering the long-term perspective. The situation is exacerbated by the rising number of civilian casualties and a worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

“With such a balance of power, Israel has no chance of defeating Hamas's ideology, regardless of how many terrorists are killed. Moreover, this actually endangers the further radicalization of ordinary Palestinians, given the lack of any plans or security arrangements following the removal of the movement,” Ellwood believes.

He considers it essential to hold an urgent summit, for instance in the United Kingdom, to explore options for Gaza's “post-war development,” primarily involving representatives from Israel, Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and the UN, taking into account the interests of Gaza's population.

“As soon as the Israel Defense Forces are convinced that militants and their structures have been destroyed, they should transfer responsibility in the enclave to international peacekeeping forces, ideally under UN auspices,” emphasized Ellwood. Subsequently, the governance functions in the area could be assumed by a technocratic council composed of representatives from the countries that signed the Abraham Accords between Israel and Arab nations regarding the normalization of relations. This includes Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, the UAE, and Sudan.
