The Situation in the South Caucasus is Grave: CSTO Secretary General
The situation in the South Caucasus is grave. This was stated by the CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov during a meeting of security council secretaries of the CIS countries taking place in Moscow, according to TASS.
“Referring to the serious situation prevailing in the South Caucasus, I want to emphasize that the draft decision of the CSTO, aimed at de-escalating the situation in the region, which, unfortunately, was not adopted at the CSTO Council meeting last November, remains in force if consensus is reached,” he said.
The official noted that there remains a risk of terrorist activities, illegal migration, and the illicit trafficking of weapons and drugs along the southern borders of the CSTO responsibility zone.
