Concerns About Treatment of Armenians from Artsakh in Higher Education Institutions: Alarm by Tovmasyan
There have been alarming reports regarding discriminatory treatment of Armenians from Artsakh in universities, particularly from young compatriots who have been forcibly displaced. This was stated by Member of Parliament Taguhi Tovmasyan on her Facebook page.
“Students in a psychologically heavy state emphasize that the faculty demonstrates clear discrimination and biased treatment towards them, highlighting the circumstances of having been forced to appear in RA universities and creating unnecessary problems due to their presence,” Tovmasyan noted.
The MP spoke with Yerevan State University Rector Hovhannes Hovhannisyan about the imperative of not exerting undue psychological pressure on Artsakh Armenians and ensuring they are not isolated in society, reaching an agreement on this matter.
“We agreed that he would strictly demand respect from the faculty towards the Artsakh youth, emphasizing that they deserve equal treatment from their compatriots. I will consistently monitor the raising and resolution of such issues not only at YSU but also in all universities of the Republic of Armenia. In case of a recurrence of such unworthy treatment, I will publicize the names of the lecturers who display unacceptable behavior,” she emphasized.
