The Situation in Gaza is Incomprehensible: WHO Director Calls for an End to the Palestine-Israel Conflict

Since October 7, there have been at least 237 attacks on the healthcare system in the Palestine-Israel conflict zone, including 218 attacks in Palestinian territories and 19 in Israel. This was announced by World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus during a press conference in Geneva. He noted that these attacks are violations of international humanitarian law.

The WHO chief characterized the situation in Gaza as "incomprehensible"; hospitals are filled with wounded people lying in corridors, surgeries are being performed without anesthesia, thousands are seeking shelter from bombardments, families are suffering from a lack of food and water, and morgues are overflowing.

He also mentioned that since October 7, only 217 trucks carrying humanitarian aid have reached the Gaza Strip, whereas prior to this, the average daily delivery amounted to approximately 500 trucks. Ghebreyesus concluded that a humanitarian ceasefire in military operations, at best, and a complete cessation of hostilities is necessary. There is also a demand for free and safe access to provide assistance, which must be agreed upon between both parties.
