Biden: Military Aid to Israel Should Only Be Considered Within Ukraine Aid Package
U.S. President Joe Biden has stated that if Congress passes a law to provide military aid to Israel without including a mention of support for Ukraine, he will use his veto power, as reported by Reuters. This information was relayed by Meduza.
The Biden administration insists that military aid to Israel should only be considered as part of a package that includes assistance to Ukraine. However, this is not favored by some Republican lawmakers who are willing to support funding for aid to Israel but question the expenses associated with the support for Ukraine that the Biden administration requires.
The proposed legislation by the White House, which includes aid to Israel and Ukraine, also entails funding to support Taiwan and costs related to the construction of a defensive wall along the border with Mexico. In total, the bill outlines expenditures of $106 billion for these purposes.
The bill has been introduced in the House of Representatives, where Republicans hold a significant majority. For the document to become law, it must also be approved by the Senate, where Biden's allies from the Democratic Party hold the majority. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has stated that there is no chance for this bill to pass in the upper chamber of Congress.
